Tympanometry & Acoustic Reflex Testing
A middle ear test to detect fluid buildup, infections, and eardrum abnormalities.
About Tympanometry & Acoustic Reflex Testing
If you experience ear pain, pressure, or frequent ear infections, a Tympanometry test can help determine the cause. This painless, quick test assesses the mobility of the eardrum and identifies conditions like:
- Glue Ear (fluid behind the eardrum)
- Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (pressure build-up)
- Perforated Eardrum
- Otosclerosis (stiffening of middle ear bones)
What to Expect?
- A small probe is placed into the ear canal.
- The probe generates small air pressure changes to check eardrum movement.
- Results are displayed in an easy-to-understand graph called a Tympanogram.
